President Kennedy arrived at Waddington in Lincolnshire on a 707 from Shannon and then flew by helicopter to Edensor to honor his sister Kathleen Kennedys grave. He later headed to Gatwick to meet Prime Minister Macmillan as crowds cheered in Ireland. Kennedy was accompanied by sisters Mrs. Jean Smith and Mrs. Eunice Shriver and friend Mrs. K L Billings. Kathleen Hartington Kennedy died in 1948 in a crash and her husband, the Marquis of Hartington, was killed in France in 1944. The private visit drew emotional scenes at Shannon and Edensor with chants of come back Jack.
