In Washington the Senate weighs whether Sen. Barry Goldwater will vote against final passage of the civil rights bill. He was absent as the bipartisan substitute won 76 to 18 with all opposition from southern Democrats. Tower says Goldwater would have supported the substitute via a live pair.
R E Jimmy Zimmerman of 17 W Second St today announced he will file petitions to run for state representative from the district. A Democrat living in Scottsdale seven years he is employed by Maricopa County in the engineering department and has served two terms as West Scottsdale precinct committeeman.
Daniel Elmore of Watts earned his diploma from Nav id Starr Jordan High School after four years of night classes, saying his long dream was to educate his 19 children and now prepare to enter Compton College in September. He quit at fifth grade, returned to school at 21, and despite WWI and marriage, kept studying.
