Court rules radio and TV must air opposing views
The Supreme Court ruled 7 to 9 that radio and television broadcasters can be required to air opposing views on controversial issues in their own programs. It rejected claims that FCC authority infringed free press rights. The eight-justice panel also struck down an Ohio law banning advocating sabotage and reversed a conviction for anti Negro and anti Semitic Klan statements. The Court also overturned a 1927 California decision upholding a similar law and held wage garnishment requires a prior hearing.

Jeffrey L. Powers, 19, faces sentencing in Maricopa County Superior Court for aggravated assault tied to an incident at Dr. Clarence R. Laing’s home on New Year’s Eve. Riot clashes in Tokyo as students confront police at center
In Tokyo ITO Japan riot police clashed with Zengakuren and Jeftist students twice Sunday during an attempted block of the fourth public center opening. About 245 students were arrested, including five girls, as about 1,600 demonstrators faced roughly 5,000 policemen. Authorities reported 63 officers 20 students and 11 bystanders injured.

Burglary Stolen Coins And Gasoline Thefts Reported
Police reported a theft of a $1,200 coin collection from David Smith's home on Saturday evening with entry through a pried arcadia door between 5:30 and 9 p.m. Also stolen were 127 gallons of gasoline and two tires from a Union service station on East McDowell Road between 10 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday after the station was found locked.
