Astronaut Edward Givens Killed In Texas Crash
In Pearland near the Manned Spacecraft Center a midnight wreck on a sharp curve killed Air Force Maj. Edward G. Givens, one of the earliest Apollo support astronauts. Two other officers were injured, one critically, as a foreign car left the curve and struck a ditch. Givens, among 19 chosen in 1966, died at Southeast Baptist Memorial Hospital in Houston about 12:45 a.m. CDT from chest and internal injuries.
