Population Center of U S Moves to Centralia Farm Pasture
Final census tabulations place the U S population center on a rotating pasture at Fred Kleiboeker farm near Centralia Illinois. The 100 foot tower was erected by the Coast and Geodetic Survey and the center sits about 1 500 feet from the Kleiboeker home. The move reflects a century of westward drift driven by industry shifts and new transportation corridors.

Not a cactus, it stores moisture in a spongy core and flowers in favorable seasons. Distinguished ecologist and writer observe its dreamlike impact on the landscape.
