Senate Will Approve Strong Foreign Aid Bill
Senate Democratic Whip Hubert Humphrey predicted the Senate will pass a good strong five year foreign aid bill likely to please President Kennedy. The Foreign Relations Committee cut 436 million from the measure, but Humphrey called the cuts a minor change and said the bill meets administration aims. He noted 200 million would come from a contingency fund and 131 million cuts targeted Formosa and Korea. Additionally GOP members accused the administration of pressuring Congress to support federal aid to education, labeling it a veto threat to push the program through.
