Houston resident Thomas, who received a heart transplant on May 3, 1968 after a stroke in 1967, describes waking with a new heart and feeling immediate relief and ease of breathing. Tragic Queens fire kills 11 in small stucco house
A St Albans Queens blaze killed 11 people including nine children after a false alarm delayed responders. Fire officials said a single two story dwelling housed four families and began in a first floor kitchen. Authorities noted 16 residents lived there and investigators will probe zoning.

Britain Drops Charges Against James Earl Ray in King Murder Case
London reports that Britain dismissed charges against James Earl Ray for illegal weapon possession and a fraudulent passport, clearing the path for his extradition to the United States to stand trial for the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ray’s Alabama attorney accused the U.S. of turning the case into a P. Fire damages Humane Society shelter in Scottsdale Tempe area
A fire damaged the Scottsdale Tempe Humane Society shelter at 1211 E Princess Dr, with about 400 dollars in damages. Rural and Tempe Fire Departments responded, extinguishing the blaze in the ceiling caused by an overheated incinerator. Earlier, a smoldering cigarette started a fire at the Coachhouse Inn and smoke filled a trash barrel at 7900 E McDowell Rd. No injuries or major damage reported.
