Murder suspect died in crash ruled homicide
A coroner's jury in Phoenix ruled that murder suspect Herbert L. Gaynor died from multiple injuries in a car crash that was a homicide. Gaynor, 39, was killed June 19 when his sports car struck a rock on a private road to his mountain home and plunged 58 feet. He had faced murder charges tied to the death of his former business partner Fred Beggs, shot in December 1970. A witness testified Gaynor hired three men for 5000 to kill Beggs, who allegedly owed 30000 and held a life policy of 30000 with a planned payout to Beggs' widow. Three law enforcement officers testified at the four and a half hour inquest.
