Gas price rollback eyed in Phase IV economic plan
Washington sources say the Nixon administration is weighing a gasoline price rollback as part of Phase IV to follow the June 13 price freeze. If enacted, prices at service stations could drop, with home heating, diesel and aviation fuels also affected. The plan would hinge on tying new freezes to May 15 or earlier prices, with oil and food sectors prioritized. Independent distributors and farmers report ongoing fuel access problems, while critics call for mandatory controls and accuse big oil of manipulating shortages.
