GOP Platform Focus On Civil Rights And Viet Nam Policy
A United Press International survey of the GOP Platform Committee shows a strong tilt toward a general civil rights plank and a tough stance on Vietnam. About one third of the 100 members replied with views on civil rights and UN membership, nuclear test ban, and the party’s stance ahead of the 1964 election.

Nixon to take GOP peacemaker role at convention
Former vice president Richard Nixon agreed to a late convention appearance to introduce the Republican nominee and urge party unity. Nixon, the 1960 GOP nominee, was moved to speak after the nominating speeches to avoid being seen as swaying the convention. Some officials suspect Nixon allies arranged the scheduling change.

A 17 year old Negro girl was wounded in Moss Point Mississippi when three shots were fired into a voter registration rally. In Knoxville Tennessee the disc jockey Frank Kennedy shot Leonard Clayton Cobb after a dispute over a girl. In Lakeland Florida white youths clashed with Negroes while in Selma Alabama a window was smashed and arrests followed.
