The Scottsdale Shutouts nearly won a game as the younger squad rallied for ten unanswered runs to tie the Babe Ruth Youngsters at ten. The Older Shutouts fell 9-8 to the Babe Ruth Oldies after a late two run burst. See story and pictures, page 10.
After five years of talks the United States and Russia nominally accept a ban on atmospheric space and underwater tests but confusion surrounds whether this marks a turning point or another bargaining round. Khrushchev spoke of a simultaneous signing of a limited ban and a NATO Warsaw Pact non aggression pact. The U S response was cautious steering toward guidance rather than a public statement and the non aggression pact requires NATO approval.

A welding accident in Tempe killed 28 year old William H. Glendenning of Phoenix and injured his assistant Samuel E. McGough of Mesa as a diesel tank exploded during repair. McGough was treated at Mesa Southside Hospital for arm burns and shock.
