Morning bell ringer parade by Parks and Recreation and Junior Woman’s Club leads to a Community Center concert. Mayor Bud Tims to speak. Tempe Kiwanis fireworks at Sun Devil Stadium with Wallace and Ladmo appearances. State offices and many schools closed for the holiday.

Accidents injure six here in Scottsdale weekend
Six people were injured in two auto accidents in Scottsdale over the weekend. In the first crash on McDowell Road, Tom Lloyd Parrill with passenger Kenneth Burdick were treated and later in good condition. Clifton Manuel was hospitalized in Phoenix. Parrill was cited for failure to control. In a second collision on 2200 North Scottsdale Road, Maurice Bunn his wife Catherine and Marela Georgas were treated and released. Donald Milligan was cited for making an unsafe left turn.
