Virgil Bradford 60 died Monday in a Phoenix hospital. Services set for 10 a.m. tomorrow at Paradise Chapel in Phoenix with interment at Mesa Cemetery. Bradford was born in Oklahoma and lived in Scottsdale since 1952. he was an assistant manager at Dana Brothers Motor Co. in Tempe and a Southern Baptist missionary minister. He is survived by wife Grace, three sons Jack, Bobby, and Gerald, four daughters and 18 grandchildren, with funeral officials and callers listed.
Washington senators opened debate on a 1.7 million federal workers pay raise and a 33 percent post election raise for Congress. Backed by President Johnson, supporters expect quick passage with limited amendments. The bill, approved by the Civil Service Committee, would raise postal workers about 4.9 percent and provide $7,600 boosts for federal judges and lawmakers to $30,000, Cabinet members to $35,000. effective for federal workers immediately, but for Congress after January 1 following the election.
Scottsdale School District plans to fill 38 teaching vacancies before September with hopes to complete by July 1. Assistant Personnel Director Jim Sturdevant says staff will rise to 944 in 1964 65 from 897. The board set final budget action for July 7 and noted 110 resignations this year with 106 hired.
The Chamber of Commerce sign committee and the city planning and zoning commission meet tonight at 8 p.m. in city hall to review a proposed sign ordinance drafted by the chamber committee. The commission previously rejected the ordinance and urged the city council to deny it. Planning Director George Fretz urged study sessions to address objections before the meeting.
