Antimalarial Drugs May Harm Eyes and Costs Rise in Hospitals
Dr. Walter C. Alvarez warns that high doses of chloroquine and related synthetic antimalarials can cause irreversible eye damage including corneal frosting and retinal degeneration. He cites Henkind and Rothfield findings and notes risks with hydroxchloroquine amodiaquin and quinacrine while Atabrine appears safer. The piece also covers rising hospital costs about $36.8 per day and mentions the author’s booklet Colitis available for 25 cents via mail.

Powell backs doubletime pay to curb overtime growth
House Labor Committee Chairman Adam Clayton Powell predicts Congress will approve President Johnson's doubletime pay proposal this year to discourage overtime in selected industries. He notes mixed prospects for extending federal wage hour coverage to 2.6 million workers as Johnson requests. NAM president Gallander opposes the overtime bill, warning of higher prices or production cuts, while Powell argues the rule can make a shorter workweek workable and create jobs.
