Shea Blvd Bid Set At 144000 For Scottsdale Project
A low bid of 144000 was received by the State Highway Department Friday for a two mile Shea Blvd improvement in Scottsdale. Mesa Paving Co. led the six bids, with others up to 200000. The highway commission will decide Tuesday on acceptance. The two mile city project links a paved section to a nine mile county build and shortens travel for north Scottsdale and Phoenix residents heading to recreation areas. Scottsdale pays about 45000 of the cost with state and federal funds covering the rest. If approved, work could start within 10 days after the Feb 7 city council decision.

A 17 year old boy, later identified as Duane Evang of Phoenix, was found dead after a shooting near a church at 20th Street and Rnes er Road. Police say several youths fled a nearby party as detectives investigated and that the victim may have been struck by a stray shot from someone at the event.

State Legislature Ends Week With One Major Approval
