Albert blasts tax rebates in Ford speech response
House Speaker Carl Albert warned that President Ford's proposed 12 billion tax rebate would mostly aid the richest 17 percent, while fuel tax hikes could hit low and middle income families harder. He noted the 2 per barrel oil tariff would lift gasoline and heating costs, potentially erasing any tax cut benefits. Albert urged action by March and warned of possible progressive tax steps if no administration move by July.
