Mariner 9 set to test Mars darkening wave theory
Mars researchers prepare for Mariner 9 orbital study to settle whether a seasonal darkening wave sweeps the planet. The spacecraft, in orbit since November 13, will map over 70 percent of Mars and take about 5 000 photos while testing satellite star navigation to improve trajectory accuracy and potentially boost future science payloads.
