Fire injures Phoenix man in garage area blaze
A Phoenix man is in fair condition at Maricopa County Hospital Burn Center after second degree burns covering about 15 percent of his body. Doug Willstead aged unknown of 1904 W Vermont was burned on the legs when he poured gasoline on a warming fire at 70th Street and Sixth Street. Carpenters nearby extinguished the flames with coats and he was taken to County Hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance. In a separate incident fire caused 50 damage to attic insulation at Richard Steiner residence 8403 E MacKenzie, blamed on a short in a recessed ceiling light.

Mervin Cluff of 9002 E. Cactus Rd. told police a .387 Magnum pistol and a Polaroid camera valued at $170 were missing from his home after an open bedroom window was found on Dec. 4. Cluff, a former Scottsdale police officer, left the force in 1967.
