Scottsdale announces a new city office phone system with the number 947-4211. The change adds trunk lines and an after hours answering machine while police and fire numbers stay the same. New extensions include Zoning Ext 34 Plumbing Ext 36 Electrical Ext 37 38 Sewer Ext 52 Business Licenses Ext 51 Purchasing Ext 47 City Clerk Ext 30 Garbage Ext 35 Library Ext 75 Parks Ext 77 Personnel Ext 55 Planning Ext 60.
Three Scottsdale firms have applied for state contractor licenses. Applicants are Jack Carter of 7301 E La Reata P L Fears File Co of 6843 E Culver and Glen O Moser a masonry contractor of 2014 N 80th Pl. Percy L Fears is listed as a qualifying partner with William L Comer. Written protests must be filed by Jan 13 when licenses are eligible for issuance.
Postmaster O. C. Wilson reports Scottsdale post offices earned $912,985 in 1963, up 25.6 percent from 1962 due mainly to higher postage rates that took effect last year.
Dr. I Arnold Lesk of Motorola Semiconductor Products Division earned IEEE Fellow status for contributions to semiconductor technology and device development. The Phoenix IEEE section will present the certificate. Lesk’s career spans General Electric and Motorola work on transistors switches tunnel diodes and integrated circuits.
South dealer faces a risky start against West as opening diamond lead tests safety. South wins with ace but cannot draw trumps cleanly, East ruffs and gains two spades and a diamond while preserving a trump trick. If South began by refusing the first trick, he could win the second diamond and stay safe through later plays.
