The Labor Department reports a 0.1 percent drop in January consumer prices the first decline in a year. The CPI stands at 127.4 versus 1947-49 base, up 1.6 percent from a year ago. Take home pay held steady month to month but rose costs have cut buying power about 4 percent over the year.

A joint city council and board of architects meeting set boundaries for an all frontier western architectural zone. The zone runs from Indian School to Second Street and 200 feet beyond rights of way, with extensions west of Orange Avenue and east of George Street. It covers north to Camelback Road and along Scottsdale Road to Citrus Drive, defining a 200 foot wide strip in designated directions.
Builder Ralph Staggs will finish a 11% acre Papago Parkway community park for New Papago subdivision residents within two weeks. In Oran's new city district a mob of about 200 burned two European women in their car and injured a Moslem auxiliary policeman and three other Europeans including a child. Police say occupants were trapped and the driver was dragged from the vehicle before its destruction. A Moslem was wounded by a bullet as riot police used tear gas to disperse demonstrators linked to a National Liberation Front protest.
Phoenix UPI reports all tickets for the Dons Club Trek to the Superstition Mountains east of Mesa next Sunday are sold. Lloyd Betts, the club's first vice president, notes the Lost Dutchman Trek is an annual highlight of their Arizona travel tours.
