Obituary Notes for Carol Hoyt and Alice Nelson

Carol L Hoyt, 18, BYU freshman from Scottsdale died after an auto crash north of Flagstaff and funeral arrangements set in Scottsdale. Alice Adams Nelson 86, descendant of John Quincy Adams, died at home in Phoenix with services in Sunset Chapel and burial at Green Acres. survivors include son Gaylord Nelson and grandson Jeffrey Nelson.

Stock market closes with broad gains across sectors

Three face marijuana charges after Scottsdale Rd crash

A 19 year old man Anthony Barraza and two 17 and 15 year old juveniles were arrested in Claypool Arizona after police found marijuana and four bottles of beer in an auto parked in a field at Scottsdale Road and Van Buren. A small sack of marijuana was on the seat. Juveniles placed in detention and Barraza jailed pending arraignment.

Pompidou urges Middle East peace with refugee solution

French President Georges Pompidou told Congress that any peace deal must include a renunciation of force by both sides and a solution to the Arab Palestinian refugee issue. He backed Israel’s security, touched on Vietnam war views, noted a forthcoming Nixon meeting, and deflected Iran Libya jet sale questions while discussing U S options.

Miss Arizona guest to speak at Scottsdale Civitan meeting

Kathy Ennis 1969 Miss Arizona will be the guest of the Scottsdale Civitan Club at its Thursday night meeting in the Scottsdale Ramada. The Tucson native and University of Arizona nursing student represented Arizona in the 1969 Miss America Contest and will crown the next Miss Arizona at the March 21 pageant at East High School.

Burglars Take Pistol Tape Player From Fidler Home

Police report a break in at Charles R. Fidler's home, 8220 E Garfield, where burglars pried a patio door and stole a .357 magnum pistol a tape player tapes and records totaling 810 dollars between 7 45 and 9 45 p m Tuesday. Typhoon Nancy moves toward central Philippines with 115 mph winds and may hit Manila by nightfall or early Thursday as weather warnings go out.

Open schools as judge orders Georgia district to reopen

Federal District Court Judge W A Bootle ordered Houston County Georgia schools reopened today defying a new state desegregation law. The district had closed for a week to implement a federal plan transferring 3500 students and 130 teachers to racially balance. Governor Maddox criticized the ruling while Bibb County officials faced penalties for interfering with integrated classes. In Louisiana, Dawkins approved Monroe city schools desegregation neighborhood plan as other systems seek similar actions.

Apartment blaze on Monterey Way causes $500 damage

Firemen report a stove fire at Ray Wolfe residence 6726 E Monterey Way at 12 24 p m Tuesday confined to the stove and kitchen with heavy smoke filling the apartment. Faulty wiring caused a second vehicle fire at 7707 E Shea Blvd resulting in $300 damage reported by a woman on a nearby golf course. A second car fire at 7 37 p m Tuesday, in an auto owned by Danny Hinton at 7708 E Heatherbrae, was also linked to an electrical short.

Nixon ABM plan faces renewed Senate battle

President Nixon’s proposal to thicken the Safeguard Antiballistic Missile system draws new Senate opposition as critics push to drop the program.
