Indians seize Navajo plant in protest over jobs and reform
Twenty armed Native Americans led by an AIM official occupied the Fairchild electronics plant at Shiprock New Mexico owned by the Navajo tribe. They took guards into custody and demanded job retention on the reservation as well as reform of the Public Health Service hospital and halt to Black Mesa coal mining. Local Navajo police sealed the plant and FBI agents stood by.

High speed chase ends in fatal two car crash on Indian School Road
A two mile pursuit Sunday afternoon led to a two car collision on the reservation killing four and injuring two. Hilbert Manke 57 and his wife Kathleen of Phoenix died, Edwin Manke and Ruth Manke of Wisconsin survived. Netta DeMontaigu 47 of France and Francis Manke 24 in ICU. Christopher Hill 17 also died in a separate Scottsdale crash. Police say DeMontaigu sped away from officers before running a red light at Pima Road.
