Israel blames pilot for crash over Sinai airspace
Israeli officials said 92 dead and seven survivors after a Libyan Boeing 727 was shot down near the Sinai desert. Uri, the Phantom pilot, testified to attempted forced landing and damage to wing tips to stop the airliner that reportedly strayed from Tripoli to Cairo during a sandstorm. The Bir Gafgafa base was cited as the airfield over which the plane flew, raising suspicions of espionage rather than accident.
