FBI Phoenix seeks a very dark green compact car possibly a Volkswagen tied to the extortion and kidnapping of Verna Bumpas, wife of a Scottsdale bank official. A man watched from the green car while an accomplice rode in the white 1962 Chevrolet, which held Bumpas in a trunk for hours before she was found. no money was delivered.
Mike Doss, a 20 year old North Scottsdale resident on a desert motorcycle ride, found a 1962 Chevrolet with Verna Bumpus trapped inside. He alerted police while FBI agents investigated, and Bumpus was freed about 45 minutes later. Doss said he was scared but acted to summon aid.
