Apollo 14 Lands With Moon Knowledge And Proof Of Flight Feats

Apollo 14 returned to Earth with a rich collection of lunar samples and thousands of photographs. The crew Alan B. Shepard Stuart A. Roosa and Edgar D. Mitchell splashed down near the New Orleans helicopter carrier after a 1.2 million mile voyage, promising a smashing success and new proof of mankind’s ability to explore the unknown.

Parade trophies awarded at Scottsdale Road parade

Judges awarded 31 trophies at the 197T Paraga del Sol Parade on Scottsdale Road. Winners included the Oscar Strobel trophy to Scottsdale League United Latin American Citizens fidut, Governor's trophy to Scottsdale Sertoma Club, Grand Marshal's Memorial trophy to U S Marine Corps Band from Twenty Eight Palms, Riverside Elementary School Band received President's trophy, and Parada Boss to Carol M Manor. Three Year Old Boy Injured After Running Into Car

Police report a three year old boy was struck as he dashed into the street at his home. The vehicle was driven by 33 year old Sally Jo Geyer of 6184 E Galle Camelia. The child did not require hospitalization. the incident occurred around 4 30 p m. Stock Market

Man Struck by Car in Scottsdale Area. No Citations

Three additional fender benders with no injuries occurred Monday involving two cars each. An accident on Scottsdale Road in the 4600 block at 11:03 a.m. three more near Shoeman Lane at 12:23 p.m. and at Belleview and Scottsdale Road at 9:53 p.m. localized incidents reported.

Welding Rig Stolen From Local Rental Yard

Police report a man with California plates rented a welding rig from Rental City at 7745 E McDowell on January 24 for 94 hours and did not return. About $3525 in welding equipment was stolen. Speculation says the suspect may have fled to California. A minibike worth $105 was also stolen from the Gary McWherter residence at 6520 E Pierce. No suspects identified.

Scottsdale district to add two track health education program

Scottsdale School District official predicts most 10th graders will enroll in the more in depth health education track next fall. Health education director James Toman says four of five parents may choose the contemporary in depth program while seminars will let parents decide which path students follow. He envisions kindergarten through 10th grade curriculum as part of a seven unit K-12 program and urges a nationwide step up in in school health education.

Salt River Project seeks 230kV line through McDowell Park

Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Commission delayed action on SRP’s bid to string a 230000 volt line on 110 foot towers across the southwest corner of South Mountain Regional Park. The route would run from Pinnacle Peak to McDowell Mountains through Fountain Hills and the Salt River Indian Reservation to the Thunderstone substation near Mesa, drawing local opposition and easement controversy.

SRP to Begin Filling Canals This Weekend

Salt River Project will refill canals north of the Salt River this weekend with water entering the Arizona Canal at Granite Rest Diversion Dam on Saturday and then the Grand Canal. Refilling will take about two days after a 28 day drainage period for maintenance. The project cost exceeded 216000 dollars and included new structures for demassing and trash collection and grouting of more than a mile of the Arizona Canal to prevent seepage.

Phoenix man arrested for driving while intoxicated

A Phoenix man, George Julian Adams, was arrested Monday night at 7 45 p.m. on a charge of driving while intoxicated after his car ran over a curb at the corner of Camelback and 76th Street. Police said his vehicle was weaving erratically before the crash. He resides at 4155 N 38rd Pl.

Man exposes himself to three girls on 82nd Street

Police report a thin dark haired man in a light blue medium sized car exposed himself to three five year old girls near 82nd and Oak Streets around 2 p.m. Monday. He appeared aged 25 to 40, possibly wearing light blue checked pants and a white shirt.
