Jennifer Albright a 19 year old belly dancer in Bangor Maine says she dances as art to help her husband Stephen attend Bangor Theological Seminary. She plans to be a telephone operator while managing a home and gourmet meals.
Maricopa County Attorney Moise Berger will refile a disturbing the peace charge against Arizona State University professor Morris Starsky after a judge dismissed it. Starsky, an assistant philosophy professor, was cited for using loud offensive language during a dispute over posting leaflets at Grady Gammage Auditorium. He was fined $220 in Tempe Justice Court and appealed.
Grant Cooper told a potential juror he does not expect a not guilty verdict and outlined possible verdicts including murder in the Kennedy case. Alternate jurors were being questioned as the recess continued and the 12 jurors were already chosen. Phoenix notices report Hughes faces obscenity charges and local jury duty delays, with other court actions and a car wash fundraiser planned.
Donald G. Felker 52 owner of Happiness House hobby shop died Friday in Scottsdale Baptist Hospital. He was a tool maker former Hamilton Technical School teacher born in Stoney Creek Ontario survived by wife Margaret mother Mrs Ellan Felker and a brother. Services Monday 2 pm at Messinger Mortuary burial in Green Acres. Arthur Lewis Ross 75 art director for 40 years at R L Donnelly Co Chicago died Thursday in Scottsdale hospital retired in 1957. Survived by wife Annabella son Donald Jr of Chicago daughter Mrs Robert Beckwith of Glenview. Services in Glenview Illinois. He was a Chicago native and graduate of the Art Institute. Continuous to year.
Two Arcadia High students, William Kite and Christopher Pierce, 17 and 16, were ordered by Judge Jack Ogg to a three month weekend and holiday supervised work program for throwing grapefruit at Dr. Clarence Laing’s Phoenix home. The probation report is due after 90 days.
Offshore workers used tons of congealing mud to seal the Union Oil well six miles offshore in the Santa Barbara Channel. The slick coated beaches as crews reported progress before dawn, with officials noting a 75 percent chance of sealing before first light. Federal officials paused tidelands drilling to assess risk after the spill widened across 30 miles of coastline.
Police reported two crashes in Scottsdale on Friday. A 16 year old, James A. Greer, was slightly injured when his car at 4925 North Scottsdale Road was struck by 50 year old William Fender. Greer was cited for failure to yield and Fender for speeding. In a second three car collision at Scottsdale and Vista Road, 25 year old Dessie Burton stopped, Sharon Adams 26 rear ended, sending Adams into Burton and injuring no one reported. James M Jones 37 was cited for failure to control.
Two small trash fires prompted Rural Fire Department action on Friday. Firefighters extinguished fires at 87th Street and Roosevelt at 6 40 p.m. and at Fashion Square in Scottsdale near Camelback Roads at 3 16 p.m. They also assisted Mrs Kent Stanford of 6713 E Palman by removing water from her home after a broken washing machine hose flooded it.
Scottsdale police logged diverse incidents on Friday including an indecent exposure in Eldorado Park at about 6 p.m. A man 35 to 40 years old, white shorts and T shirt, exposed himself. Also reported were a grand theft from auto of over $1,000 in Rockford visitor William B. Morris’s car, a dog poisoning with suspected strychnine, and a home theft attempt where Mary L. Pippin found her TV unplugged and door open after a reported entry between 12:30 and 9:30 p.m.
CORONADO CALIF UPI A Navy security expert testified that Pueblo officers used ill chosen methods to destroy secret papers before capture and that the documents could have been burned in an hour with two hours available. He said if needed the classified material could have been soaked and set afire, though not proposed as a funeral pyre. The court of inquiry into the January 23 1968 Pueblo seizure resumes after the weekend.
The widow of Reymundo Montez files a 1.5 million suit against a hospital and a nurse from Biafra alleging careless and negligent care led to Montez death after brain injury from head trauma. His heart later went to Erwin Cramer as Chicago area’s first successful transplant. a coroner jury later ruled murder and urged grand jury charges.
