A citizen finance committee reports the Scottsdale School District is at or near a budget crisis with expected cuts of 1 to 2 million dollars. The panel urges creating a standing long range budget committee to craft priorities and a potential May 25 budget override referendum. The board resists making the committee permanent.

The Arizona superior court schedules the retrial of William Wayne Macumber for March 16 after the state supreme court reversed his 1975 two counts of first degree murder conviction. The case concerns the 1962 shooting deaths of Timothy McKillop and Joyce Ann Sterrenberg near Scottsdale.
