Paradise Valley Considers Stronger Town Manager Powers
Oscar A Butt set to take office as town manager as a 100 page draft code would grant him explicit authority to run town affairs. The Arizona League of Cities and Towns prepared the code after a four month study and a comparison with the current code is expected by February. The council may later pursue a city charter with a freeholders board and a voter referendum.

Schmid Cleared On Kidnaping Counts In Triple Slaying Case
Charles Schmid Jr. was acquitted of kidnaping two Scottsdale youths and a Florence rancher, while a verdict on a fourth kidnaping charge remained undecided. He and Raymond Hudgens had escaped from the Arizona State Prison on Nov. 11 and were later recaptured. Schmid previously confessed to a nonviolent motive for the escape but denied involvement in any kidnapping.

Bizarre murder tale links wife killing to son shooting
A northeast Phoenix man Duggan allegedly told friend John Adamson that his three year old son shot his wife with a 22 calibre rifle and he then killed her, dismembered the body and hid remains in the desert north of Phoenix. The friend’s account led to a search warrant.
