A UPI report describes the ammunition ship Badger abandoned in mid Pacific after a cargo mishap while en route to Vietnam. Four U.S. seamen remain missing as a J 8 plane and a Greek vessel search the area after a blast tore a hole in the aft starboard. Fourteen crewmen were rescued by the Greek ship Thian Star Friday as the MSC ship was ripped by an explosion.

Badger State Seafarers Missing After Pacific Distress
The 459 foot merchant ship Badger State lay deserted with a smoking stern about 1,500 miles northwest of Hawaii as darkness fell Friday. Some missing crewmen, mostly from Washington, were seen clinging to life rafts before night. A U S plane dropped flares to locate survivors but failed. An Air Force official said the outlook grows worse with each hour.

New York Hospital reported 43 year old Newton New Jersey man Edward Falk is awake and making satisfactory progress days after a three hour and 13 minute heart and lung transplant. He received the organs of a 50 year old woman who died of a brain hemorrhage. The donor identity was not released.

Downed pilot in critical condition after Phoenix crash
A 20 year old student pilot Leo Brown Jr. spent 15 hours beside his wrecked Cessna 150 awaiting help and remained in critical condition at St Josephs hospital. His 20 year old passenger Alan Richard Sylvia walked to a mission and was treated and released at Luke AFB hospital. The plane took off from Deer Valley Airport on Christmas Day for a Phoenix area flight and crashed in the Estrella Mountains southwest of Phoenix.

Man injured in 4 car rear end crash

Police said three northbound cars stopped at the light when Elert struck John R Hall and pushed his car into a third vehicle. Hall received minor injuries and was treated by a private physician.
