Salt River Indians chart land development near Scottsdale
The Pima Maricopa community east of Scottsdale plans extensive use of about 46 000 acres to upgrade living standards. A general plan by Coldwell Banker estimates 215 000 residents could be housed on reservation lands, with 17 percent of Valley non Indian housing possible in 16 years. 90 year leases to non Indians are key, but the council aims to slow growth to preserve social values and consolidate land through a tribal land board. Development would start at the western edge along Scottsdale’s limits and proceed eastward.

County Board approves applying to Interior Department for rights of way on the Salt River Pima Maricopa Reservation to extend McKellips Road from Haydon to Country Club Drive.
