Ky threatens to ask Americans to leave South Vietnam
In Paris talks with Ambassador Harriman and Cyrus Vance, South Vietnamese Vice President Nguyen Cao Ky warned the United States could be asked to depart if Washington pursues what Ky calls a sellout to Communists. Ky, citing a press interview, said he would request Americans' withdrawal if their goals shift. He defended mobilization plans and questioned U.S. press focus on American casualties over Vietnamese actions.

Socialist Thomas dies at 84 after long reform drives
J Huntington New York Socialist leader Thomas died Thursday at 84 in a nursing home. He never won an election but championed war opposition and social justice. A memorial service is set for Monday at Community Church. He authored a 15th book due next year. His secretary Timothy Sullivan and daughter Polly Miller were at his bedside. his wife Frances Violat Stewart died in 1947. He ran for president six times from 1928 to 1948 and sought NY governor and NYC mayor posts. He believed his party proposals had become law.

Electrical short in extension cord blamed for Scottsdale fire
Rural Fire Department blamed an electrical short in an extension cord for a fire at 5730 E Oak in Scottsdale causing $800 damage. The blaze confined to one bedroom and no injuries were reported.
