Scottsdale tobuild City Hall and Library with Arnold bid
Arnold Construction Co. of Phoenix submitted a low bid of 1,399,000 for the Scottsdale civic center City Hall and public library. Other bids ranged up to 1,532,000. If accepted, the council will review Tuesday night with construction starting after year’s first and a projected completion in August. The 12 acre parcel lies north of Second Street between Hinton and George.

Artist Oscar Strobel Dies at 76 Grand marshal of Parada del Sol
Oscar A. Strobel 76 of 67 2 E McDonald Dr died at home after a life as a renowned artist. Born in Cincinnati he moved to Arizona in 1926 from Hollywood and El Paso and ran a Scottsdale studio for 32 years. A former cavalryman and Army Signal Corps pilot he studied art in Berlin Paris Florence and worked for Brown and Bigelow Advertising Co. He decorated Camelback Inn and Greyhound depots in Phoenix Wrap staff San Diego and Reno and Valley National Bank branches in Phoenix. Survived by wife Millie Mae a son Oscar II a brother Clarence and a grandson Oscar IV. Services and burial in Cincinnati. Contributions suggested to Scottsdale Royal club.

Police reported a rash of traffic accidents since 4 pm yesterday due to rain and slick roads. A 17 year old bicyclist, Mark Sweebe of 2623 North 68th Street, was hospitalized with head injuries after colliding with a car driven by William Berg on Scottsdale Road at Wilshire Drive. his condition is listed as satisfactory.
