Soviet sources say nearly 50 ships were sent to the Mediterranean after the 1967 war and about 35 remain with under 20 warships and submarines still in the region. The Moskva cruiser and some destroyers have been pulled back to Russian waters.
U.S. Ambassador Averell Harriman after meeting South Vietnam Vice President Nguyen Cao Ky said an agreement on seating arrangements could speed the start of Paris talks. He stressed no Viet Cong recognition and a two-sided approach, while Saigon reportedly wished to keep the Viet Cong from equal status.
Police report a four car crash in the 7400 block of Camelback at about 8 am. Westbound driver Richard Koeppen Jr. stopped for a left turning car, triggering a chain reaction as Gail Dingle failed to stop, hitting John Dunn and pushing Thomas Lindsey into Koeppen. Damages: Dingle $300, Dunn $800, Lindsey $450, Koeppen $250. Dingle cited for failure to control.
Israeli jets attacked Jordanian territory near the Sea of Galilee for about 25 minutes and engaged Jordanian forces in the Beisan Valley. An Amman spokesman said four Israeli jets destroyed a house with no Jordanian casualties reported. The event follows multiple recent airstrikes amid ongoing clashes. The PLO reported a separate rocket and machine gun clash with four Israeli casualties.
UPI reports a 10 hour clash near the Rockpile on the south edge of the DMZ left 12 Marines dead and 10 wounded as Marine artillery and U.S. jets attacked North Vietnamese forces. Eight North Vietnamese fatalities were recorded with the Reds retreating into the DMZ. Saigon issued a preventive alert as NLF marks its eighth birthday.
Senator Paul Fannin of Arizona argues in prepared remarks that responsibility for non Communists in Vietnam should move from the United States to non Communist Asian nations. He spoke at a Prescott lunch and Douglas dinner meeting and urged continued U.S. aid to those countries.

Jameson Oliver Jameson 64 died Wednesday in a Phoenix hospital. He lived at 1414 N Seventh Place and moved to Arizona 15 years ago from Blytheville Arkansas. Survivors include wife Ruby three daughters Betty Kobold Dorothy Madlock Scottsdale Audrey Wheeler Phoenix three sons Aubrey Joe Scottsdale Doyle California a brother three sisters eight grandchildren.
Jerome Larson 20 an employee of the Russell Jackson Car Wash in Scottsdale died Monday in St Josephs Hospital Phoenix and is survived by his mother Amy Lewis Scottsdale four brothers and two sisters. Burial will be at Salt River Memorial Center Phoenix.

June Anderson 3514 N 63rd Avenue reported fruit brandy liqueurs and canters valued at 25 dollars taken after a break in between 6 p.m. and midnight. Peter Hulon 3402 N Bist Street reported a television set missing after a window was broken in the night.
In Oklahoma City, veteran officer Richard A. Neal retrieves his pistol fourteen years after it was stolen in 1954 during an assault. Neal was wounded, the attackers were captured, but the weapon remained missing until now.
