New Plans Sought To Ease Property Tax Burden
Readers propose bold options to replace or reduce property taxes. A San Jose resident calls to repeal the tax and fund local government via a 1 percent bank transaction levy passed on to account holders. Another idea offers unemployed and low income residents a chance to work off all or part of their taxes, as tested in Hartford where 100 participants offset up to 1000 dollars. Connecticut lacks an income tax, contributing to high property taxes.

County weighs building code changes with irrigation pump tweak
Maricopa County plans to consider county building code changes early next year. If adopted the revisions would align the code with the 1976 Uniform Building Code. A Planning and Zoning Commission recommendation would drop the rule requiring farmers to obtain an inspection permit before repairing or modifying older irrigation well pumps.
