The Labor Department reports November unemployment at 8.1 percent, up from 7.9, with about 200,000 more workers jobless to reach 7.8 million. Wholesale prices also rise for the third straight month, signaling continued inflation and a sluggish economy ahead of Carter's tax cut considerations.
Wholesale prices rose nine-tenths of a percent in September while farm prices fell five-tenths. Industrial prices led the rise and have accelerated since June, pushing the year over year increase to 4.2 percent, though retail levels haven’t fully reflected these gains yet.

In Culiacan Sinaloa thousands of peasants disrupted farm work to press land reform demands. Landowners appealed to Gov. Alfonso Calderon to intervene today to persuade squatters to halt actions and allow farming to resume.

Long range planners endorse Scottsdale Planning Commission calls for higher density housing and tight limits on commercial activity in the two square mile resort corridor along Scottsdale Road. A public hearing on the draft plan is set for December 14, with Little America Refining and Holdings seeking resort development on a central site near Indian Bend Road.
Mayor Barbara von Ammon calls on residents and council members to attend the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors meeting to oppose Camelback Shadows Inc.
