Daily pool use ends Labor Day in Scottsdale
Scottsdale's public pools will close on Labor Day with Eldorado Pool open weekends through September. The city recreation department lists events at Eldorado Recreation Center including Senior Citizens Club, Teen Center hours, Parakeet Club, Bucks and Square Dance Club, and band practices. Sunday features a free band concert by Harry's German Band and an outdoor fireworks display.

Allied forces killed 25 and rescued three wounded crewmen of a downed American helicopter 17 miles northeast of Xuan Loc and 58 miles northeast of Saigon. U.S. troops withdrew under Nixon plan as Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops shelled 35 targets and fought Que Son Valley battles.

Car Fire and Brush Fires Strain Rial Fire Crews
A car fire at 10 24 am on Oak Street and Beeline Highway near the Salt River Indian Reservation caused about 600 in damage to a Tempe owned vehicle. Brash and grass blazes were battled at Indian Bend Road and 6th Street at 9 45 am and in Indian Bend Wash near Roosevelt Street at 2 16 pm. Fire crews also cleaned up a gasoline spill at Tist Pi and Shea Boulevard around 10 am and extinguished a grass fire behind Eldorado Park swimming pool at 10 30 pm.

Youth Injured in Two Car Collision on 71st Place
A Phoenix youth, Brian Waddroups, suffered minor injuries when his westbound car crossed the center line and struck a car driven by Jack Larkin at 71st Place and Shea Boulevard. Waddroups was cited for failure to control his vehicle. he was not hospitalized.

First Federal Savings to occupy Los Arcos mall office
First Federal Savings will become the first permanent tenant at Los Arcos Mall when it moves into its new Scottsdale McDowell office this weekend. The office opens Tuesday with Sept 29 activities. Obituary: Tim E Madden Dies After Interstate Crash
Tim E Madden 47 of 4634 E Calle del Norte and two others were killed in a two car collision on Interstate 10 near Ehrenberg Arizona Monday. Madden reportedly confused at the end of the freeway led to the crash. Graveside military honors will follow a 10 a.m. service at Lake Sun City. He served 26 years in the Air Force including World War II pilot duty in Europe. Survivors include his wife Tyananita a brother Jack and his mother Sue Madden.
