Scottsdale Shadows opens model condominiums and recreation center

The Scottsdale Shadows project unveils model apartments on an 4S acre site with a $1 million recreation complex. Models range from one to three bedrooms priced $25 300 to $65 000 with design by Childs Dreyfus and interior design support available. Lumber prices climb as NAHB seeks price controls probe

The National Association of Home Builders urged a price control probe after lumber and plywood prices continued rising despite ceilings by July 17. NAHB President Stanley Waranch cited mill price increases from mid-1971 to mid-1972 of 14 to 48 percent, averaging 25.9 percent for framing lumber and plywood. He noted a 1.6 percent rise in the month since controls and warned of higher costs for a median priced home, urging action against perceived gimmicks and evasion that push prices 20 to 50 percent above ceilings.
