July U S imports shrink while exports edge up in trading gap
The Commerce Department reports a July U S trade deficit of over 2.3 billion dollars, an improvement from June though the fourth worst month on record. Imports fall 3.5 percent led by petroleum products and coffee, while exports rise modestly led by electrical machinery and chemicals.

Food prices rise slightly in August in Maricopa County
Shoppers in Maricopa County paid 0.4 percent more for food in August than July. AASU Bureau of Business and Economic Research for First National Bank reports an August index of 181.7 valuing a fixed basket at 18.17 dollars, up from 18.10 in July and 16.81 a year ago. Increases came mainly from meats poultry and fish and fruits and vegetables with dairy up and cereals down.
