At the new Doubletree Inn on East Indian School Road applicants lined up at 9 a.m. to fill 200 positions for an October 1 opening. About 800 people waited by 11 a.m. Many lack experience as they seek roles from waitstaff to clerks amid a lengthy screening and training process.
Scottsdale reports total sales tax receipts through July 1975 of 2 926 594, up 132 472 from 1974, driven by gains in utilities rentals auto dealers and food stores while construction and several categories show declines. July alone shows weaker performance with hotels restaurants and rentals retreating.
Two thirds of the 4,503 deserters who joined President Ford's clemency program dropped out or were discharged, enabling punishment avoidance. About 1,000 more never reported for jobs. 7,000 never entered the program. The Clemency Board's effort continues with 21,000 applicants, 6,000 found ineligible, 6,000 recommended for pardons, and 700 denied.
