Arizona residents face rules on what portion of jointly held real or personal property is included in a deceased spouse's gross estate for federal and state estate taxes. If both spouses paid from community funds, half is included. if purchased with noncommunity or separate funds, the share equals each spouse’s contribution. Separate property remains excluded except for the portion funded by a spouse, and other definitions cover what constitutes community or separate property.
