Teller Urges Senate Rejection of Test Ban Treaty
Physicist Edward Teller told three Senate committees that the United States should resume atmospheric nuclear tests on a limited basis. He argued the treaty would be a dreadful mistake and urged challenging the Russians to cap atmospheric tests at not more than one megaton annually. Teller warned the agreement would hinder U.S. security and economic strength while supporting NATO ties and space efforts.
