Police questioned a three year old boy for more than two hours asking his name. He repeatedly answered Baloney despite candy offers. Mrs. Fred Daley later called to confirm the boy was her son Fred Daley Jr known by the nickname Baloney.
A special city council meeting set for 8 p m tomorrow will consider a proposed personnel ordinance and employe rules. The council is expected to endorse both measures and form a three member civil service board to serve as a grievance body for non administrative city staff. The package completes the city personnel system following a December ordinance on classification and pay.
A Scottsdale Chamber delegation will back the Maricopa County Junior College Board at a 6:30 p.m. Phoenix College meeting. Carl Plumb and others will attend as the health and education committee endorses a 9.75 million bond to fund three new colleges and buy Phoenix College. A 28 cent per $100 tax rate is proposed to run the system with sites at 48th Street and Camelback Road, 19th Avenue and Northern Avenue, and in Mesa.
Severe storms struck Texas Nebraska and Kansas unleashing more than 90 tornadoes with 92 mph winds. In Auburn Nebraska a car carrying Mrs. Fred Shilling and eight children was hurled by a funnel. Diane Shilling 14 died after surgery and others were seriously hurt. Fort Worth suffered up to 2 million in damage as the siege injured and displaced many.
Rome reports show the Christian Democrats under Premier Amintore Fanfani holding a wide margin in early senate tallies amid Italy's national election. Results are not expected until tomorrow night as observers weigh whether the center-left government will continue and how many CD members may shift to the Liberals in opposition.
In Los Angeles UPI reports James Francis Cardinal McIntyre arrived late for a special Mass after forgetting the daylight saving switch. He spoke to about 600 members of a Catholic men's group noting he had plenty of time but was surprised by the late start.

Neva Joan Colton a 44 year old mother was found dead on the kitchen floor of her 815 N Hayden Road apartment Saturday evening by her six year old son Kemp. Police say the death appears to be an overdose of sleeping pills and the county coroner's report is awaited. Colton a former drug store clerk is survived by her mother Bessie Stone of Butte Nebraska and brother Derril Stone of Colorado Springs Colorado with funeral services planned for Wednesday.
Scottsdale attorney Richard Kamps moves to reopen the Superior Court case over the east Scottsdale annexation after a Tuesday recess. Judge Nabours in Tucson will rule on a motion to dismiss as the sides clash over assessed valuations and how evidence is presented.
The House Armed Services Committee opened a probe into four Marine officers accused of concealing the death of a suspected Castro agent outside Guantanamo Naval Base. Ex-Lt. William Szili seeks reinstatement. Ex-Capt. Arthur Jackson may attend a White House Medal of Honor ceremony.
Washington agencies probe reports of a one plane bombing raid on Havana to determine if the act violated the Neutrality or Munitions Control acts. A Beechcraft twin engine seized for investigation. Reporter Alexander Rorke and a pilot linked to the raid are under inquiry. The traveler item cited MIT student details draw scrutiny.
