Tax relief bill expands aid for elderly homeowners in Arizona

The Finance and Revenue Committee moved a tax relief measure that boosts elderly aid by adding a $5 000 property value threshold and income limits. The amended plan raises the package to about 50 million dollars and may prompt a joint conference committee as the House bill lacks lower income elderly relief. The Senate also allows counties some spending freedom and includes mobile home owners in aid. The one year program uses over 40 million in federal revenue sharing and about 8 million from the state general fund to lower local property taxes amid higher valuations.
