Doyle Named City Magistrate of Scottsdale

Lawrence H. Doyle Jr. of 707 E Fourth St and partner in Sullivan and Doyle in Phoenix was named Scottsdale city magistrate to replace Marlin Bixler who resigned last week. Doyle, active with Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and the Knights of Columbus, leads the Scottsdale Marshal's Posse and prior roles include Wisconsin public records coordinator and Phoenix Title and Trust Co. executive. He moved to Scottsdale in 1956 with his wife Micki a Scottsdale High School teacher and their 13 year old daughter at Loloma School.

City Annexes 40 Acre Corner Lot In McDowell Scotts Dale

The city council passed an emergency ordinance annexing a 40 acre tract at the southeast corner of McDowell and Scottsdale Roads, completing the Papago Parkway area annexation. Phoenix Title and Trust Co. represented owner Ralph Stages. A second 40 acre undeveloped parcel to the east was annexed earlier, with plans for commercial zoning sought from the planning and zoning commission.

Young Husband Takes Own Life in Tucson Incident

In Tucson a 29 year old man, Lawrence Encinas of the San Xavier Reservation, killed himself after striking his estranged wife unconscious with a rifle butt. Deputies found him dead at his home from a chest gunshot.

Weather storms lash midwest to east with floods and twisters

Brutal windstorms and heavy rain swept from the Ozarks to the Appalachians as a cold front moved east. Flooding hit Warren Pennsylvania and Washington Pennsylvania while western Indiana and Arkansas reported tornadoes and damage. Ohio towns faced emergency orders and a steeple toppled in Cincinnati as Indiana and Arkansas injuries and property losses followed.

Doctors Open Convention Here in Scottsdale

The 70th annual Arizona Medical Association meeting opens in Scottsdale with more than 200 delegates. Dr. Leslie B. Smith will become president at the general session, Governor Fannin will address the group, and a schedule of scientific sessions, luncheons, and social events runs through Friday.

32 Freight Cars Derailed Near Bowie

A 54 car Southern Pacific freight train derailed about eight miles west of Bowie, with 32 cars leaving the tracks. No injuries reported. The broken axle on a copper ore concentrate gondola sparked the accident. Conductor R B Edwards of Tucson and Engineer T B Shannon of Tucson led the crew. Main track to be cleared by noon. salvage teams from El Paso and Tucson plus heavy equipment moved in. passenger trains rerouted via the southern line through Douglas.

Merchants Outline Plans For City Improvements

At Scottsdale Merchant Association meeting leaders discussed beautification traffic promotion and parking for a city wide program. Larry Kahley Joéal Store manager said cooperation with the chamber of commerce for a May beautification push. May 19-20 tentatively set for the city wide cleanup. Bill Manghelli cited traffic issues on Scottsdale Road with Robert McNutt city manager explaining steps. Jack Goot outlined promotions from Scottsdale Dollar Days to a city contest for friendliest store employee. Norman Saba reported progress in getting store employees to use parking lots run by the non profit parking corporation.

Scottsdale Man Faces Hearing On Concealment Charge

Scottsdale resident Robert H. Close operator of the Copperstate trailer firm in Tempe faces a Tuesday morning hearing on a federal charge of concealing 1500 dollars worth of assets. He was arrested at the bankruptcy hearing. Bond set at 2000 dollars. Close lists debts of 105101.14 and assets of 6900. He allegedly failed to list aluminum roofing panels and windows.
