Officials meet about runway at Phoenix Sky Harbor
City officials and airline representatives planned a closed meeting today at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to discuss the newly resurfaced south runway. The runway reopened after a 95 day shutdown for repairs, with airlines citing soft spots and tire cuts from gravel. William J. Ralston said the texture of the runway coating caused the problem, and a statement would follow. Attendees include the city engineer, other city officials, airline reps, and the FAA.
