Inferno blaze damages two subway trains near Grand Central
A fire described as Dante's Inferno destroyed two subway trains beneath Grand Central Terminal in early morning. The heat buckled tunnel supports on 42nd Street and halted Crosstown traffic between Fifth and Third avenues. No injuries were reported as trains were evacuated and smoke affected commuters in the terminal. Chief Martin Scott cited charred remains of the trains and uncertain origin of the blaze at about 5 am.
