Joseph Cracchiolo 43 resigns as federal bankruptcy referee in Phoenix effective Sept. 15 three weeks before his six year term ends. DOJ probe began after a Scottsdale man charged materials from a bankrupt firm under Cracchiolo’s jurisdiction were used in his home. Judge Walter Craig said no further action will follow.

Congo plane crash kills 45 near Kinshasa Ndjili
A Congolese air force C46 transport plane crashed into the Congo River near Ndjili Airport killing all 45 aboard including 42 Congolese military personnel and their families. The crew were non-Congolese and the aircraft was chartered by the army from World International Ground Maintenance Organization. The crew identity was not released.
