Ypsilanti City Clerk James E. Ashby and his wife Susan resign to move to Scottsdale seeking warmer climate. Ashby, in office since 1972, says they quit next month with no immediate jobs.
The Basic School Committee won approval to circulate a survey testing community interest in a basics school concept. The survey targets district elementary school parents and aims for release before May 1 after review by School Supt. Randall.
William Kunstler praised Patty Hearst verdict as a turning point and criticized prosecutor James Browning Jr. He described the Harrises as patriots and said Hearst lied to the jury about her love affair. Scottsdale and Phoenix plan a cooperative project to install a bikepath along 64th Street between Clinton and Cholla in North Scottsdale at an estimated 8200 dollars. Scottsdale will clear the right of way and maintain the path while Phoenix builds it within Scottsdale property.
Scottsdale City Council approved a modification with Mercado Verde developers to build a 1 500 seat five theater complex in the downtown mall beside the Scottsdale Center for the Arts. The council rejected a staff proposal for a pre approval traffic and parking study. United Artists will lease the second phase for the theater complex.
