Washington reports indicate the Vietnam war effort will not trigger Army Reserve activations. Defense Secretary McNamara said 30,000 trained soldiers are produced monthly with replacements for endings tours, while draft calls stay near April-May levels. Offshore forces bring total to about 300,000 in theater.
The House Education and Labor Committee backed a minimum wage bill that would lift pay for 4.7 million workers to 1.40 by February 1967 and 1.60 a year later, with employers facing over 1 billion dollars annually in added costs. Critics from two Republicans voiced objections as debate looms.
Frank Bennett of Scottsdale was named administrative assistant to State Treasurer Robert Kennedy Thursday. Bennett previously served as Santa Cruz County assessor and treasurer from 1957 to 1960, then as state senator for the Santa Cruz district in 1961 and 1962, and later worked for the Division of Appraisals and Assessment Standards after moving to Scottsdale in 1961.
