The Junius Daniel Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy unveiled a monument in Weldon to Halifax and Northampton counties soldiers and sailors who died in the Civil War. Col Burgwyn presided. Maj T L Emry accepted the gift. Col R E Lee Jr of Virginia delivered the oration. About 3,000 attended. press seating was reportedly limited.

Two In Gor Grave Near Dawsons In Sudden Deaths
Patsy Baker aged about sixty and her son Simmons aged about thirty died within an hour of each other near Dawsons. They were buried in one grave at the old home place. Mrs. Baker leaves two sisters and one brother.

Accidental Shooting Kills 17-Year-Old Girl Near Speed
Frances N. Jones, a colored girl aged 17, was fatally shot at her Brady farm home in No. 4 township Friday evening. The weapon discharged when her cousin Robert Bridgers, 15, struck the loaded gun with a board during a squirrel hunting incident. The ball pierced her left lung and she died instantly. Acting Coroner W. J. Thigpen and Deputy Sheriff Frank Dawson reported the death accidental after hearing witnesses.

Murder Trial in Edgecombe: Sparks Sentenced to Twelve Years
In Edgecombe County court, white man Sparks was found guilty of second degree murder in the O Neal killing near Lawrence. Judge W R Allen imposed fifteen years but later reduced to twelve years in State prison. A separate case of a colored boy charged with murdering his father was discharged by the same judge, provocation noted and mental impairment considered.

Tramp murders flagman on rails near Tunis
A South Tunis murder report states Flagman Winstead of the Atlantic Coast Line, a Wilson resident, was killed by tramps early this morning. His throat was slashed from ear to ear and his body was later run over by a freight train, with the corpse taken to Wilson.
